This one-day workshop will focus on one of the most fundamental aspects of drawing – the block-in. We will show you a series of exercises rooted in tradition that will help you achieve a strong start to build on. We will start by doing short block-ins from various Bargue plates and gradually extend the time allotted to each one. The fundamental principles to be stressed are gesture, proportion, shape accuracy and abstracting from nature. Visual examples and demos will be provided to help students gain a better idea of how to approach this important skill.
