Glass Studio

Passionate about glass plates, glass vases, glass sculpture, glass everything? Light it up a notch by attending one of our glass art classes! Our glass studio is one fun, creative place to be! From torch work to fusing, beginner to advanced, our expert instructors will teach you how to make enviable art pieces in soft or Boro glass. Love the look of stained glass? Learn to design and connect the perfect pattern or pictures in glass. Experienced and advanced students will find this to be the perfect setting for improving techniques and experimenting with new ideas while discussing challenges and exploring resolutions. Our glass studio is a well-ventilated, well-lit work area, and has eight lampworking stations, with tools, equipment, and kilns. Students new to the studio will be provided information regarding safety precautions, work area set-up, torch set-up, annealing procedures, and kiln temperature settings.  

Glass Fusing
Multiple pieces of glass are joined by a high enough heat to melt them together. Learn traditional and modern techniques to create personal and unique art pieces.  

Lampwork
Create smaller works of art all made on a torch - colorful beads, marbles, wearable pendants in soft glass.

G201b  Glass Fusing  (All Levels)  Morrison  Monday  July 2nd-Aug 13th  9:30am-12:30pm  $233.00

  This class will familiarize you with tools and equipment, basic design, firing and polishing techniques, as well as cutting and preparing glass. Various types of glass will be used - Sheet, frit and dichroic, and you will learn creative ways to complete finished, kiln formed pieces. Learn how to design and complete several small fused glass pieces for jewelry or decorative elements in your home.

G203b  Lampwork Glass  (All Levels)  Maley  Monday  July 30nd-Aug 13th  6:30pm-9:30pm  $118.00

Combine fire and glass to create unique beads.  This class is a great introduction to making beads using soft glass for beginning students.  For those returning students, individual instructions will be provided to develop or improve skills such as heat and gravity control, stringer work, dot size and placement, design and shape, encasing, and more. Three week class. July 30, Aug 6, and Aug 13.

This class will familiarize you with tools and equipment, basic design, firing and polishing techniques, as well as cutting and preparing glass. Various types of glass will be used - Sheet, frit and dichroic, and you will learn creative ways to complete finished, kiln formed pieces. Learn how to design and complete several small fused glass pieces for jewelry or decorative elements in your home.

G302b  Lampworking 101  (Beg/Int)  Lynch  Tuesday  July 3rd-Aug 14th  1:30pm-4:30pm  $277.00

This class is geared towards beginning to intermediate lampworkers, from those who have never worked with glass to those wanting to improve their skills.  
For those just beginning – they will learn safety, tools and equipment for lampworking, types of glass and initially how to make a round bead.  From there they will work on other shapes of beads, decorations (frit, powders, dots, etc.) and as they progress will work into more complicated beads and shapes (i.e. encasement, fish).  There is not a set timeline for each step as every student works at a different pace. For those with some experience – they will work on expanding their skills and work on bead shapes, decorations, etc., that they are interested in learning. Note:  This class involves working with a table mounted torch (open flame).

Fine tune beadmaking skills in a small class setting.  Fine stringer control, encasing, complex canes, fuming, enamels and powders will be covered.
