The word Pastel brings up images of soft, light even romantic paintings. For example Mary Cassatt and Edgar Degas. Not necessarily true! Pastel pigments are the purest form of all the artist mediums and extremely versatile. They can delivery both bold and dynamic paintings! We will experiment with different methods of doing under paintings and different techniques of applying the pastels to achieve the results you are looking for.

Let's leave the studio, this fun and exciting class focuses on sketching from life on location! As a group we will strengthen our drawing skills by sketching subjects in the urban environment including architecture, street scenes, people in cafes or on their daily commute and anything in between! We will drive or take DART to visit several nearby locations (some may have minimal admission fees) and make one or more excursions into Dallas. sketching may take place outside weather permitting and indoors in case of hot or inclement weather.
Suggested supplies black Sakura Pigma Micron pens, fountain pen, Stillman & Birn 7 x 10 beige paper sketchbook, white posca pen, water brush pen.

This introductory course focuses on fundamental drawing skills including line, texture, value, and composition. We will explore how to observe a subject and capture what we see using charcoal, graphite, and conté. Ideal for beginning drawing students or those who want to refresh their skills.

Learn the basic techniques to use the difficult medium of watercolor. You will complete a painting each week following the step by step instructions and demonstrations by the teacher. You will work primarily from photographs to paint both still lifes and landscapes. More advanced students may wish to work from their own photographs with individual help from the instructor.
