A202 Rigid Heddle Weaving (Int 3) - Martha Myre

This class will be in the round robin format with different looms warped for different techniques/structures. Each student will have a chance to weave on each loom and, at the end of the class, we will cut apart the lengths that each student has produced. The student will then have one sample for each of the techniques. In this class we will cover color and weave techniques such as log cabin, pinwheels, as well as deflected warps, clasp weft and warp, and combining color and weave with warp and weft floats. Yarn, loom, shuttles, and pick-up sticks will be provided.

Students should have some experience in direct warping and weaving on a Rigid Heddle loom.

We will begin by working on pre-warped looms so that the students can get experience in using the RH loom before beginning their own projects. Basics such as winding a shuttle, direct warping, hemstitching, how to keep even selvedges, and how to beat will be covered. We will also look at weaving terms (WPI, PPI, YPP, dent, heddle), how to pick the right yarn for your project, calculating amounts of yarn needed, and how to troubleshoot problems. In the second half of the class, each student will plan a simple project, warp their own loom, and weave start to finish. Supplies for the first 3 classes will be provided. Students will supply yarn for their personal projects. Supply Fee: $20 Payable to Instructor


A403 Beginning and Intermediate Sewing - Chad Ickert

This class focuses on beginner sewing concepts and techniques but also welcomes students who have sewn in the past and want a refresher or who want to hone their basic skills. Students will learn about the tools used in hand and machine sewing, fabric and notions (zippers, buttons, closures). Students will need to bring their sewing machine. Supply fee $35.


A503 Leather Crafting (All levels) - Chad Ickert

This class focuses on beginner leather crafting concepts and techniques but also welcomes students who have worked with leather in the past and want a refresher or who want to hone their basic skills. Students will learn about the tools used in hand and machine leather sewing, and specialized leather tools. Supply fee $35.


A603 Wire Weaving on Rigid Heddle Loom -Christine Miller

Students will learn how to weave with wire as warp and weft on a rigid heddle loom. Students will prepare the wire warp and beam onto the loom. They will explore a variety of weft materials including wire and various fiber weft to create a woven metal sample of potential applications.
