Every department had wonderful volunteer help during the move, from packing to unpacking.

The Clay department had an army of volunteers over two weekends. Pieces from our master artists' collection were carefully packed up and then moved in a caravan of SUVs. One gigantic pot by Josh deWeese was seatbelted into a car for its journey into special storage.  It (and all the other pots) will be back at our permanent location this winter to inspire students.

Clay also held the first class in our new site on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30th.  Here's a picture of our inaugural class at Valley View, focusing on handbuilding a pot.

How to find the fun:  the Craft Guild is located on the LBJ/635 side of the mall, just to the left of the entrance to Sears.  Look for us immediately on your left as you enter the mall, on the first floor.

President's Update

A big THANK YOU to all of our instructors and volunteers who helped pack up our equipment and move the Guild to Valley View, then get us unpacked and ready for classes within a few days - you are amazing!  You showed once again why we are a guild - a community of involved artists, not just a place to take classes.  I can't begin to thank you enough for all your help this month.

We've had fun setting up our Valley View space with a casual, summer camp kind of vibe. We have special rooms just for our kids summer camps, and our front desk/reception area features a new iPad where you can self-purchase supplies, individual classes, or an entire class session. Just show your electronic receipt for supplies to your teacher and you're good to go!

As always, if you have suggestions or ideas for the Guild, please email them to me at president@craftguildofdallas.com

See you at Valley View!

You Won't Believe What This Painting is Made With

This "painting" isn't made with oils or watercolors or pastels - it's made with glass!   It's the work of one of our glass instructors, Diana Morrison, who teaches glass fusing classes and does workshops in fusing and glass frit (which is how the clown above was made).  Frit is glass which comes in powder form, or in fine to medium grains.

Meet Diana Morrison

Diana is one of our glass instructors, but glass isn't her only medium.  She's also a sculptor and works in clay.  In fact, her B.F.A. from Utah State University was in Sculpture and Watercolor Painting.  She is currently working in two mediums, focusing on figurative studies in clay and sculptural, abstract, and frit painting in glass.
Her work has been featured in recent group exhibitions with Texas Sculpture Association, Texas Visual Artist Association, the Craft Guild of Dallas and Texas Clay Association.

As a glass fusing instructor at the Craft Guild of Dallas, she loves to keep her students on their toes by introducing new techniques and methods weekly.  She challenges her students' creativity and taps into each individual's style.

This summer, Diana will be teaching several three week long mini-classes and one-day workshops for adults as well as several sessions for kids camp.  To see a list all of her classes, click here

Sculptural Explorations in Fused Glass
Featured in our gallery area through May 14 is a display of outstanding student work from Diana Morrison's kiln forming glass classes. Challenged to use clear or transparent glass in a three-dimensional format, students designed, created, fired and mounted their glass sculptures.  Stop by the gallery in the next two weeks to see their amazing creations.

Successful Spring Show
April showers brought shoppers to The Craft Guild's 2016 Spring Show.  The damp weather didn't dampen their spirits as they spent hours browsing and buying the hand-crafted creations of participating artists.

Thanks to our artists and volunteers for making this a successful show.

Special thanks go to our generous Spring Show supporters: Ben E. Keith, Bitter Sisters Brewery, Elsa Grivas, Ron Lieberman, Lim's Foods, Nancy McNeil, Martha Napier, May Dragon, Art Clay World and Wubber's.
