This class is designed for students new to polymer clay. You will learn how to condition clay using a pasta machine and how to use the basic tools associated with this art form. You will learn single layer techniques using stamps, pigments, acrylic paint, foil and impression tools and also learn two-layer techniques using freeform and geometric shapes. Students will make a simple pendant, button or bookmark. Individual interests may also result in earrings or a piece of wall art. At least one finished product will be created during class time with the one-hour curing time included.

Wet Felted Slipper Class - Christine Miller and Martha Myre

 Students will create resist patterns for their feet, learn how to enlarge it the correct amount to allow for shrinkage, and then use the resists to felt custom wool slippers using wool roving. We will need 1 ½ -2 days to complete the pattern and slippers. At the end of our time, the slippers should fit your foot but will still need to dry; students will take the slippers home to complete the drying process. Students can embellish their item with a variety of beads, buttons, or fiber that they may have after the drying process has been completed (and they will supply their own decorative materials).

A “Secret Message Candle” is a gift with a little cheerful anticipation built in! What better way is there to remind or tell someone about your feelings than with a hidden message in a candle! Once the wax has melted, a secret message will appear. Your secret message will be hidden by a thin layer of wax and will appear in 15 to 20 minutes after the candle has been lit.  Participants will create two different candles, in their choice of fragrances and messages.

This workshop is an excellent opportunity to learn how to use a hydraulic press.  You will use the hydraulic press to add volume to your beads by applying pressure to the metal using a silhouette die. The hydraulic press will punch out the bead using a pancake die.  You will learn how to solder two half domes to create a finished lentil bead.

Students will learn the basic techniques for creating a necklace, you will have an opportunity to understand the philosophy of designing one. You will learn how to create a necklace of which you will not only be amazed and proud, but your friends will admire. You will see examples of how to maximize and expand upon the techniques you learn in this class.
