Of course, you don't have to stick to simple shapes; once you've had a bit of practice you can try getting really creative! Candle painting is also a great way to give a new lease on life to any plain candles you may already have. Each student will create two full-size 10 oz. candles, with large pumpkin-shaped embeds. This class is designed for students new to polymer clay. You will learn how to condition clay using a pasta machine and how to use the basic tools associated with this art form. You will learn single layer techniques using stamps, pigments, acrylic paint, foil and impression tools and also learn two-layer techniques using freeform and geometric shapes. Students will make a simple pendant, button or bookmark. Individual interests may also result in earrings or a piece of wall art. At least one finished product will be created during class time with the one-hour curing time included.

A “Secret Message Candle” is a gift with a little cheerful anticipation built in! What better way is there to remind or tell someone about your feelings than with a hidden message in a candle! Once the wax has melted, a secret message will appear. Your secret message will be hidden by a thin layer of wax and will appear in 15 to 20 minutes after the candle has been lit.  Participants will create two different candles, in their choice of fragrances and messages.

 Students will felt around a resist,creating a pouch/bag utilizing merino wool and rayon viscose as a colored design element. We will cover how to wet felt a flap for the bag and a handle.  If time permits, we will wet felt some small ornamentations. The bag/pouch will be completed in a day, but will be wet and still “forming” - students will take their project home to complete the drying process. Students can embellish their item with a variety of beads, buttons, or fiber that they may have after the drying process has been completed (and they will supply their own decorative materials).

A gentle rain begins as you quickly duck into an old barn, just shelter enough to keep you warm and dry as you inhale deeply and enjoy the rich fragrance of the fallen leaves all around you. Soon, the sun is spilling through the trees once again.
