Introduction to Kumihimo

CGD Instructor:  Melody Lynch

Kumihimo is the ancient art of Japanese braiding. It was originally used for Japanese Obijime (belts) and ceremonial braided jewelry. Now we use it for bracelets, necklaces, belts, purse handles, dog leashes and many other items. Different types of cords/ribbons/yarns and beads are used to make the kumihimo braids. This class will make one project (necklace or bracelet) and encompasses the introduction of types of kumihimo, supplies and tools used as well as uses of the kumihimo braid. Finishing of the project will also be discussed. Supplies in the kit include the kumihimo disk, bobbins, ribbons/cords for the first project and end caps/fasteners. the project may or may not be finished during the class. Supply fee of $25.00 will be due to the instructor at the beginning of the workshop.
